Women Voters' Participation Increasing In Polls, Says Election Commission

The participation of women voters has witnessed an increase over the last few years, the Election Commission declared on Saturday.

There are 96.8 crore voters in the country with male voters accounting for 49.7 crore while women stand at 47.1 crore, said the poll body.

There are 85.3 lakh women voters, said the Commission, in the 18-19 age group.

"Gender ratio is above 1,000 in 12 states. The number of women voters is more than men. Out of 1.89 new voters, 85 lakh are women. We also included the name of anyone who had not turned 18 years of age on January 1, 2024, in the advanced list. 13.4 lakh advance applications have come to us. More than 5 lakh people will become voters before April 1," said the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

The poll body said it has been involving national icons for creating awareness and greater voter participation.

All polling booths, said the Commission, have facilities like toilets (male and female), drinking water, ramps, wheelchairs for ease of voters.
