Fear Of BCCI? KKR Star Stops Midway, Refrains From Aggressive Celebration

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Harshit Rana is enjoying a breakthrough season in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has picked up 11 wickets matches so far. The 22-year-old has impressed many experts and veteran cricketers with his stellar show in IPL 2024, and his performances have also earned him a reckoning for the T20 World Cup squad. Harshit, however, has been involved in a few incidents which haven't gone down well with fans or even former cricketers.

Harshit had come under the scanner for giving a flying-kiss send-off to Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Mayank Agarwal earlier during the season.

The player was docked 60 per cent of his match fees by the BCCI and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar had also slammed him for the gesture.

On Monday, Harshit could have made the headlines once again when he almost gave a similar send off to Delhi Capitals' Abishek Porel after dismissing him in the seventh over.

Porel had struck him for back-to-back boundaries but Harshit had the last laugh eventually. Elated with the wicket, Harshit gestured with his hand towards the batter, showing him the way to the dugout.

However, he refrained himself from crossing the limits after recalling BCCI's hefty punishment.

Coming to the game, DC opted to bat first after winning the toss and they never really got going as a batting unit. Skipper Rishabh had made 27 in 20 balls, with two fours and a six and looked to be the only batter with a decent contribution, until spinner Kuldeep Yadav (35* in 26 balls, with five fours and a six) helped the Capitals save face and score 153/9 in their 20 overs.

In the run-chase of 154, Phil Salt (68 in 33 balls, with seven fours and five sixes) took the game single-handedly from DC. Though DC got some wickets, skipper Shreyas Iyer (33 in 23 balls, with three fours and a six) and Venkatesh Iyer (26 in 23 balls, with three fours and a six) helped KKR seal a win with seven wickets and 21 balls in hand.

How Many Hours Of Physical Activity For Good Health? What Study Says

For optimal health, a person's ideal day should include more than four hours of physical activity involving exercise of light, moderate or vigourous intensity, and at least eight hours of sleep, new research has found.

Light-intensity activity could range from doing chores to making dinner, whereas moderate and vigourous exercise involve more intentional movement such as a brisk walk or a gym workout, researchers said.

The ideal daily routine should also include six hours of sitting and five hours of standing, they said.

The international team, led by Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, analysed the behaviour of more than 2,000 people within a 24-hour day to determine the right mix of time spent sitting, sleeping, standing and being physically active for desirable health.

"This breakdown encompasses a wide range of health markers and converges on the 24 hours associated with overall optimal health," said Christian Brakenridge, from the Centre for Urban Transitions, Swinburne University of Technology.

"For different health markers, from waist circumference to fasting glucose, there would be different levels for each behaviour," added Brakenridge, also the lead author of the study published in the journal Diabetologia.

For instance, switching time spent sitting with more time being physically active or performing light-intensity movements was associated with more beneficial blood glucose levels in individuals having diabetes than those without the condition, the researchers found.

The findings also acknowledged how a certain activity replacing another could impact an individual's whole day.

"Sleeping may be detrimental to health if it replaces exercise time, but beneficial if it replaces sedentary behaviour," explained Brakenridge.

However, even as exercising is more beneficial, time use has to be realistic and balanced, he said.

"People may advocate for more time exercising, though it's not feasible to have 10 hours of exercise and zero hours of sedentary behaviour," the researcher said.

While the findings applied for able adults, he acknowledged that everyone has different considerations and advised that physical activity should be fun.

"Insecure": Man Slammed For Comment About Marrying Working Woman

Marrying a woman who is ambitious, independent and driven adds depth and excitement to every aspect of life. From sharing financial responsibilities to pursuing shared dreams, marrying a working woman means embracing equality, mutual respect and endless support. Many experts have called such a marriage a celebration of strength, resilience and boundless potential. But a comment against such an alliance, shared on social media platform X, is gaining a lot of traction, receiving more than four million views within two days.

The post was shared by a Surat-based user named Vijay Marathe (with the handle @Fintech00), in which he called marriage with highly educated working women "one of the worst decisions" and a "big red flag".

Reacting to the post, several X users slammed him and actively disagreed with his thought.

"I guess you are looking for a 'Daasi' (slave) and not a wife! Your slip is showing," commented one user. "You don't have to worry about it because no highly educated woman will even consider you for a second," commented another.

"Not true in my opinion, it depends on person to person. My wife is well educated and independent, but we respect each other equally. You should actually look for the character and mental health of a person, men and women, before marrying," a third user said.

Women too joined in. "Not true. When your wife is highly educated & earning to pay the bills, husband can take risk in life to play big. Well earning wife is a big relief to husband who want to study higher, do start ups, own a factory, try business," commented a user named Messilious.

Others called Mr Marathe "insecure". But he defended his opinion, re-sharing posts that supported his views. In a follow-up post, Mr Marathe said his views are "spreading like fire" and added that people on social media "are never able to digest facts".

Who Should Partner Rohit As IND Opener In T20 WC? NDTV Poll Result Says...

The T20 World Cup 2024 is just round the corner and questions still remain on the best opening partnership for the Indian cricket team. While Rohit Sharma has already been confirmed as the captain for the competition, the position of his opening partner has resulted in a lot of debate among both fans and experts. While Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the top contenders for the position, Virat Kohli has emerged as a surprising choice. The star batter has been criticised a bit for his strike rate and few experts believed that using him as an opener can allow him to play his natural game in the competition.

When it comes to the ongoing IPL 2024, Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill had a good run of form and he has scored 304 runs in 9 matches till now. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal had a relatively slow start for Rajasthan Royals but a sensational century against Mumbai Indians came at the right time for him and the young left-handed opener currently has 249 runs in 9 matches.

Ahead of the squad announcement, NDTV Sports conducted a poll to see what the fans think. According to the poll, which was conducted on NDTV Cricket's WhatsApp channel, the fans have picked Jaiswal as Rohit's ideal partner for the T20 World Cup, with Virat coming in at No. 3.

Here's a look at the poll -

"Decision To Name Rohit Captain Hampered Team India": Ex-KKR Team Director

India captain Rohit Sharma isn't the ideal choice to lead the team in T20Is, feels former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team director Joy Bhattacharjya. After months of speculation about his future with the Indian team in shortest format, having not played a T20I for more than a year following India's T20 World Cup semi-final loss to England in 2022, Rohit return to the side for the home series against Afghanistan earlier this year in January. His first T20I appearance in over a year came after BCCI Secretary Jay Shah backed Rohit to lead the team at this year's showpiece event in the West Indies and USA.

With the tournament approaching, Bhattacharjya has questioned the BCCI's decision to appoint Rohit as captain. According to him, the appointment has hampered the team.

"The decision to appoint Rohit Sharma as India's captain for the T20 World Cup may have hampered the team. At this point, Sharma is not the ideal choice to lead the team in the T20I format," Bhattacharjya said on Cricbuzz.

Bhattacharjya feels Rohit is currently out of form and since he is the captain, India will be forced to leave either Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shubman Gill, or ever star batter Virat Kohli, from the 15-man World Cup squad.

"I have the utmost respect for Rohit Sharma and I think he is an amazing cricketer. However, he is currently out of batting form. Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill are in better form right now and are strong contenders for the opening positions. However, since Sharma is the captain, he will open, meaning one of those in-form players will have to bat lower down the order," he added.

While he chose star pacer Jasprit Bumrah to captain India, Bhattacharjya explained the reason behind Rohit's appoitment.

"I would choose Jasprit Bumrah over Rohit Sharma as captain because Bumrah's skill as a bowler makes him a vital member of the team. Rohit has achieved everything in cricket, but there's one thing he needs to do; win a World Cup. He won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and wants to end his career on a high note, we call it book-ending. That's a great thought," Bhattacharjya explained.

WI Stars Load Own Luggage In Tempo On Arrival, Video Divides Internet

West Indies 'A' cricket team arrived in Nepal on Wednesday ahead of their five-match T20 series against the hosts, starting in Kirtipur on April 27. However, upon their arrival at the Kathmandu International Airport, the team received a shocking welcome as a tempo was waiting for them outside the airport to carry the players' luggage. In a viral video, the West Indies players can be seen loading the luggage in the tempo with the aid of an helper, who was piling the kit bags and suitcases one over the other.

The video left a mix response from the fans on social media. Some slammed Nepal for the poor reception, while other's thought that there is nothing wrong with the luggage being loaded into the tempo.

Here's how Internet reacted:

Meanwhile, Roston Chase will captain West Indies 'A' while Alick Athanaze will play the role of his deputy. In a historic first, the West Indies A team will engage in a series of five T20 matches against Nepal senior men's team.

This tour holds importance as it serves as another phase in preparation leading up to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The series also marks a historic occasion as it is West Indies' first-ever tour to Nepal.

Chase will take on the responsibility of captain for the first time at this level. Commenting on Chase's selection as captain, Desmond Haynes, CWI's Lead Selector, emphasized Chase's consistent display of diligence and leadership skills.

"Chase has exhibited over the past few years an impressive work ethic and proven leadership qualities. No doubt since Chase made his T20I debut in October 2021, for the West Indies against Bangladesh he has continued to make considerable strides," Chase said in an official statement by CWI.

Aaron Finch Hits Bulls Eye As He Explains What Exactly Is Wrong With RCB

With just one win in eight matches, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are on the brink of early elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Just one more defeat in the remainder of the campaign could prove to be the final nail in the coffin for the Faf du Plessis-led side. But, it's not just this season that RCB have struggled to fire, their story has been the same for the most part of IPL history. Aaron Finch, a former Australia captain who played for RCB in the past, explained the core reasons behind the franchise's consistently poor performances in the T20 league. (IPL 2024 Points Table)

In a show on Star Sports, Finch pinpointed the auction strategy as one of the biggest reasons behind the Bengaluru side's underwhelming show in the IPL. Finch highlighted how the RCB management tends to spend heavy on batters while leaving little budget to sing a top bowler, especially spinner.

"I think there have been a couple of reasons, hasn't gone well, and I think it does start off with the auction table when you put so much emphasis on your batting group and doesn't leave a huge amount of room for your bowling. The lack of world-class spinner I guess it's something and proven in the game against KKR, Sunil Narine is a world-class operator and he's somebody who gets the job done day in day out. It's just that lack of a spinner there to be relied on consistently," Aaron Finch said.

Finch also questioned the team management's decision to play Cameron Green in the middle despite knowing that it isn't the Australian all-rounder's best position.

"I think they have got some issues with playing players out of position at times, I mean Cameron Green to trade for him for such a big price, for such a big percentage of a salary cap, to then bat him in the middle-order where is not as comfortable as batting at the top is is a real strange move. You're asking a guy to do a job which he is not comfortable with from the start so you're not setting him up for the ultimate success in my opinion," Finch asserted.

Languishing at the bottom of the 10-team points table, RCB need a miracle from here to enter the playoffs.

Video: 2 Horses On Loose On Busy London Roads, Cops Trying To Locate Them

Two army horses that were seen galloping through central London at rush hour on Wednesday have been contained, police and media reports said.

Photos and video posted on social media and by British news outlets showed the horses running along busy roads, dodging buses, taxis and other traffic.

Both were wearing saddles and bridles, with one apparently covered in blood on its chest and forelegs.

London's Metropolitan Police said it was "working with colleagues in the army to locate them".

A number of prestigious army regiments have stables in the British capital and horses are a regular sight around government buildings on Whitehall, Buckingham Palace, The Mall and in nearby Hyde Park.

The City of London Police, which polices the Square Mile financial district, said they were called at about 8:40 am (0740 GMT) about the loose horses.

"Our officers have contained two horses on the Highway near Limehouse," a statement read.

"We're waiting for an Army horse box to collect the horses and transport them to veterinary care."

The Daily Telegraph said up to five army horses had thrown their riders while they were being exercised and at least one soldier was injured.

Synthetic Sweetener Found In Cake Linked To Punjab Girl's Death: Official

The cake linked to the death of a 10-year-old Punjab girl was baked with a high concentration of artificial sweetener, officials said on Monday. On March 24, the girl's entire family fell ill after eating the chocolate cake that was ordered online from a bakery in Patiala for her birthday.

A sample of the cake was collected for testing and the report shows a high amount of saccharine, a sweet-tasting synthetic compound, was used to cook it, District Health Officer, DHO Dr Vijay Jindal told NDTV.  While small amounts of saccharine is used in food and drinks, high levels of it can cause your blood glucose levels to rise rapidly.

Officials said action will be taken against the bakery soon and a fine may be imposed. A FIR has already been filed against the bakery's owner.

In a widely shared video on social media, Manvi can be seen cutting the cake and celebrating with her family just hours before her death.

Hours after she cut the cake, her entire family fell sick, including her younger sister. The girls began vomiting and Manvi complained about dryness in their mouth and feeling parched, her grandfather said.

When she passed out, the family rushed her to a hospital. She was put on oxygen but was declared dead soon after, he said. The family alleged that the chocolate cake, ordered from 'Cake Kanha', contained poisonous substances.

Opinion: Poll Sops: Why Voters Must Question Their Long-Term Feasibility Too

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Last week, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released its latest Fiscal Monitor report, which discusses "fiscal policy in the great election year".  A previous edition of the Fiscal Monitor had highlighted a significant policy 'trilemma' stemming from...

  1. Spending demands on national budgets due to wages, pensions, health care, industrial strategies, environmental concerns, defence, and Sustainable Development Goals;
  2. Widespread political reluctance to increase taxes;
  3. The imperative to manage debt and deficits to ensure fiscal stability and financial sustainability

Additionally, escalating interest rates and dimming medium-term growth forecasts complicate debt management. However, according to the IMF, this trilemma would exert a heavy influence globally as 88 countries go to polls this year. The IMF has warned against fiscal slippages this election year.

Tailored Policies

There is no dearth of evidence for such slippages. The Political Business Cycle Theory by William Nordhaus (1975) suggests that elected officials may manipulate economic policies to engineer favourable economic outcomes around election time. In particular, it posits that governments tend to increase public spending and cut taxes to boost economic activity and improve their electoral prospects, even if this may lead to larger deficits and greater long-term debt burdens.

However, India has diverged from this typical scenario in recent years. Instead of succumbing to the temptation of interim budgets that primarily focus on short-term gains and securing votes through new subsidies and other financial incentives, recent approaches by the Union government have prioritised long-term fiscal discipline over populist measures, highlighting a decade of economic stability and empowerment. This marks a departure from the predicted bias towards fiscal slippages in election years.

The concept of fiscal sustainability in welfare states hinges significantly on the notion of fiscal space, which Peter S. Heller defined as the ability of a government to allocate resources for specific goals without compromising on financial health. The challenge of securing such a fiscal space is multifaceted. It requires strategies to generate the necessary funds to meet social obligations while simultaneously ensuring that these financial mechanisms do not stifle economic growth or disrupt fiscal stability. Authors like Marcel (2014) and Harris (2013), along with Ortiz et al. in multiple works emphasise the balance required to manage welfare expenditures and revenue generation.

Questioning Fiscal Proposals Too

While there is a lot of literature on fiscal slippage before elections, there needs to be more focus on how fiscal sustainability is affected after elections when a new government is installed. Often, a new government may become fiscally imprudent in its quest to deliver on pre-poll promises, some of which might be financially ill-judged. Such promises often crowd out capital expenditure, which has a higher multiplier effect on the economy and people's overall well-being. One example of this is poll promises made by the current Karnataka government. Last February, an economic adviser to the state's chief minister claimed that "five poll guarantees is imposing a huge financial burden on the exchequer and exerting significant pressure on the state's economy".

This brings us to a wider debate on empowerment vs. freebies in social policy. While in some cases, cash and subsidies are necessary, political parties and governments should think more about empowering people rather than just doling out freebies.

Entitlement vs Empowerment

Instead of merely providing cash, empowering individuals through social policy can enhance personal agency and reduce the fiscal burden on government resources. There already is substantial theoretical and empirical evidence to support this. The argument draws on Amartya Sen's 'Capability Approach', which emphasises giving people the means to pursue their conception of a good life.

Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee's work found that initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and productive capabilities of the poor (like vocational training and microfinance) can lead to sustained economic improvements and reduced reliance on state-provided benefits. This further supports the case for promoting empowerment over entitlement.

The intersection of entitlement and empowerment is crucial for sustainable development. While entitlement lays the foundation by establishing legal rights and frameworks that recognise and protect women's rights, empowerment ensures that women have the practical means to utilise these rights to improve their lives and impact their communities. Duflo's research, for example, illustrates how this can bring about improved development outcomes.

The Perils Of Macroeconomic Instability

Freebies announced by several parties during the elections are expansionary. They might widen the fiscal deficit sharply. At the same time, they may hurt macroeconomic stability in the long run and affect private corporate capex recovery. Macroeconomic instability, marked by fluctuations in GDP, inflation rates and employment levels, directly impacts government budgets and expenditures. During economic downturns, reduced tax revenues and increased demand for welfare programmes can strain public finances, necessitating cuts in other areas or more borrowing. This financial pressure may lead to reduced investments in critical long-term social programmes such as education, healthcare, and social security.

Additionally, persistent instability often exacerbates income inequality, and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds bear the brunt of economic downturns. This widening gap can compel policy adjustments to address disparities through measures like progressive taxation and targeted social assistance. It also necessitates policies aimed at promoting social cohesion and inclusive growth to maintain political and social stability.

Moreover, economic volatility complicates long-term planning and the implementation of social policies. This underlines the need for flexibility and resilience in policy frameworks. Health and educational outcomes can deteriorate during recessions due to reduced spending, and this calls for policies that can adapt and prioritise these sectors even during tough economic times. In the longer term, macroeconomic instability also affects demographic patterns and can influence birth rates and migration.

Balancing Short-Term Gains With Long-Term Feasibility

It's thus necessary to judge political parties not just on the promises they make but also on the fiscal plans they propose to service those promises sustainably. Political campaigns often feature a plethora of pledges designed to attract various voter groups. Yet, the feasibility of these promises needs to be addressed.

The true measure of responsible governance should be the ability of a party to articulate how it will balance short-term electoral incentives with the long-term fiscal health of the economy. This will encourage the evolution of a more informed electorate and promote policies that are not just appealing in the short run but also beneficial and sustainable in the long term.

Watch: Athlete Carries Both Pak And India Flags, Gesture Breaks Internet

India vs Pakistan battles on the sporting stage are rare, but whenever athletes from the two nations come across each other, intense competition is produced. It was the same scenario when India's Rana Singh and Pakistan's Shahzaib Rindh came up against each other in the Karate Combat on Saturday. The intense battle saw the Pakistani athlete emerge triumphant 2-1. The contest went into the third round after Pakistan's Rizwan Ali and India's Himanshu Kaushik won the first and second match respectively.

More than the game, it was Shahzaib's gesture that became a big talking point on social media. The Pakistani athlete was seen holding the flags of both his country and India's. Even the match presenter couldn't resist asking him the reason behind this act.

Explaining the gesture, Shahzaib said: "This fight was for peace. We are not enemies, we are together. Together we can do anything. This fight is for Pakistan and India's friendship and being closer."

"And, I want to thank Salman Khan for coming here. He's my superstar. I've been watching your movies since childhood. It's been a pleasure to fight in front of you. Thank you," he further said.

After the match, Shahzaib also had the opportunity to interact with Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who also couldn't resist lauding the athlete for his terrific performances.

Shahzaib's performance and his post-match gesture became a big talking point among fans on both ends of the border.

2 Arrested For Online Post On Murder Of Karnataka Congress Leader's Daughter

Police have arrested two youths who justified the murder of Neha Hiremath allegedly by Fayaz Khondunaik on their social media handles.

The accused from Dharwad were arrested on Saturday after a few pro-Hindu activists lodged a complaint alleging that the duo had posted contents claiming that Neha and Fayaz were in relationship.

According to the complainants, they allegedly uploaded pictures of the victim Neha and the accused, Fayaz, with a caption, "Neha Fayaz true love, justice for love".

Neha Hiremath (23), daughter of Congress Councillor of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Niranjan Hiremath, was allegedly stabbed to death on the campus of BVB College on April 18.

The accused Fayaz, who fled the scene, was arrested by police subsequently.

Neha was a first year MCA student and Fayaz was earlier her classmate.

The incident triggered a public outrage with protests in Hubballi, Dharwad and several other places.

The BJP accused the Congress government of being soft on anti-social elements, which resulted in this incident as the ruling party tried to project it as an incident with a personal angle.

Ticketless Passengers Crowd AC Coach Of Kashi Express, Railways React

Ticketless Passengers Crowd AC Coach Of Kashi Express, Railways React
In recent days several railway passengers have been taking to social media to show the dire condition of trains, which have been marred by overcrowding and ticketless passengers occupying seats. Now, an X user recounted his disappointing experience on Kashi Express. The passenger, who booked a seat on the 2nd AC coach, claimed that several ticketless passengers hijacked the compartment, blocked the pathway to the washroom and stood at the doors of the coach. Due to the open doors, the AC of the train was not working well, the user claimed.

Taking to X, user Adnan Bin Sufiyan shared a video showing the situation of the compartment. He tagged Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and other authorities, urging them to take necessary action. "Ashwini Vaishnaw, sir, please look at the situation 2 tier of AC. No food, no water. Washroom aane jaane ki jagah nahi hai. AC bhi kaam nahi kar rahi darwaja open hai [There's no space to go to the washroom. The AC isn't working, and the door is open]. Please take any action," the passenger wrote.

In the following post, the X user also shared a picture of the compartment. "Please take any action. Chote chote bachche gate ke paas hain. Mahilayein gate ke paas hain [There are small children near the gate. Women are near the gate]" he wrote.

Take a look below:

The X user shared the post on the microblogging site a few days back. Since then, it has accumulated more than over 17,000 views. The post also caught the attention of Railway Seva, the official account for support to passengers. "For necessary action escalated to the concerned official DRM Bhusaval," Railway Seva responded.

Meanwhile, in the comments, users demanded stricter rules from authorities.

"@AshwiniVaishnaw ji this situation happening on most of the train. Pls do take note." wrote one user. "@RailMinIndia,@AshwiniVaishnaw this is really bad experience and safety concern . It's high time to take harsh step and safeguard train journey.  Also it is tarnishing our nation image," commented another.

"Govt should increase the trains or just make an system like meto service like no ticket no entry to platform," suggested a third user. "NOW it's out of hands of the authorities... They can't manage and perform their duties.. it's a shame for Indian railways authorities, they enjoy their salary and benefits..But failed to handle the situation sensibly," expressed another.

Review: LSD 2 - Stumper Of A Film Embraces Its Campy, Pulpy Spirit

There is a dichotomy in Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 that makes itself instantly apparent. The film probes the not-so-secret virtual lives of a generation of youngsters with severely limited attention spans even as it demands complete focus on its bewilderingly whimsical flow of images and sounds. You take your eyes off the screen or let your mind wander for a split second and you are at risk of missing a crucial piece of information or a prickly flash of an image that is meant to speaks volumes. With its constant zaniness and unpredictability, the film's rhythm reflects the untamable impatience of technology-obsessed, instant fame-seeking influencers and YouTubers who inhabit a world of their own for better or for worse.

LSD 2 reveals the many ways in which violence, physical and psychological, is perpetrated on those who exist within the heady bubble and also on those who live outside it. This outright stumper of a film embraces its campy, pulpy spirit with all its might as it satirizes society that is led by technology in directions that it cannot fully grasp, not as yet at nay rate. By the time LSD 3 happens, we will probably know better.

For the moment, LSD 2 raises questions, some playful, others pointed, even profound, about a world in which fake, nearly always, trumps fact. There is a heavy price to be paid for the surrender to the lure of constantly evolving technology, as the three principal characters in the film discover mostly at their own expense.

Written by director and co-producer Dibakar Banerjee with Prateek Vats and Shubham (the writers of Eeb Allay Ooo!), the Ekta Kapoor-produced LSD 2 repeats the three-part interlinked structure of LSD, which was made nearly a decade and a half ago and addressed the impact of recording devices that impinged on people's privacy and endangered their lives and mental well-being.

In the 14 years that have elapsed between the two films, both the hardware and the software have evolved to a point where the line between the real and the virtual, and the tangible and the deepfake, can be erased at the push of a button.

Gen Z appears to thrive on leading double lives but, as a result of the vanishing margins between the imagined and the factual, many are increasingly falling prey to manipulation and the danger of self-harm. That is the principal thematic burden of LSD 2 although it isn't in the least interested in telling the audience what to make of the plight of the people it is about.

Exploring gender fluidity in a manner that isn't remotely self-conscious, LSD 2 replaces the subheads of Love, Sex and Dhokha with Like, Share and Download. Each segment portrays the struggles of individuals trying to leap out of the boxes that a myopic society shoves them into, then slams the lid shut and keeps strict vigil on them.

In the first segment, a transwoman, Noor (Paritosh Tiwari), who aspires to be an acclaimed actress, is a participant in a garish reality show - it is called Truth Ya Naach. It requires her to put her life under the public spotlight. Noor goes on and off camera with an eye on higher ratings as her rivals snap at her heels and keep her on her toes.

The producers of the show - in the judges' seats are Sophie Chaudhry, Tusshar Kapoor and Anu Malik (the only one of the three who does not play himself) - manipulate her into a reunion with her estranged mother (Swaroopa Ghosh). The mother's first reaction on seeing Noor after a two-year hiatus is "dublaa ho gaya hai". She is still averse to accepting her altered sexual identity.

Anu Malik's character throws a fit when the mother croons and the daughter dances to the song. Ordering the duo to stop, he thunders: "Maa se badhkar kuch nahin hain". He follows that up with a mushy ode to motherhood. It is apparent that his outburst is scripted. The ratings go through the roof and it is revealed that this bit of the show has been sponsored "Maa Ki Mamta Aata (Mother's Love Flour).

With the ratings and the truth meter - a method to measure the veracity of statements that the participants make on the show - yo-yo-ing wildly, Noor is under constant pressure to 'perform' her transition for the consumption of the audience.

Her process of gender assertion is reduced to a game controlled by the producers of the show, the sponsors, the public at large and, last but not the least, the anti-vulgarity clause in the rules that govern broadcasting. Technology and a society that is in voyeuristic mode 24/7, personal desire has been snatched away by the collective will of those whose ''likes" can make or break the show.

The next part of LSD 2, too, has a third-gender character, Kulu (Bonita Rajpurohit), struggling with the consequences of being who she is. She is strapped for cash and unapologetic about using her body to earn her a few rupees more.

Kulu works on the cleaning team at a Metro Rail station in Delhi. Her boss, Lovina Singh (Swastika Mukherjee), single mother of a school-going boy (who turns out to be the link between this story and the next), feigns sympathy for her employee when she gets into serious trouble and is in danger of losing her job.

Under mounting pressure from the head honcho, Lovina does her best to control the damage that the negative publicity for her company - which seeks mileage out of giving employment to transgenders - but with every move that she makes she only succeeds in exposing her own and her firm's double standards.

It isn't only in the virtual world that things are phony. In fact, if things are fake in the images and claims that float around in a hyper-connected universe, they are only a reflection of all the pretence that is constantly sought to be passed off as fact.

That is exactly what 18-year-old school boy Shubham Narang (Abhinav Singh), Game Paapi in the virtual world, does in his avatar as a hyper-masculine dude. Artificial intelligence, virtual reality and metaverses have flip sides that extract a high price from those who play along and lose themselves in the dead-end algorithm-driven labyrinths.

The great thing about a Dibakar Banerjee film is that it never fails to spring surprises. LSD 2 has more than its share of fearless flights of fancy. Some land, some don't. But that takes little away. Even when it tends to be baffling, the film makes you think.

If that is the kind of cinema that excites you, LSD 2 might be well worth your time.

Viral Video: Dubai's Sky Turns Green Amid Heavy Rain And Storm

Over the last few days, Dubai experienced an unprecedented weather event as heavy rain swept through the city. The deluge led to widespread disruption, affecting air travel and inundating streets throughout the United Arab Emirates (UAE), halting normal activities. This was the heaviest rainfall that UAE has seen in the past 75 years, with the state-run weather agency labelling it a “historic weather event”. While visuals of the devastation in the country have been making headlines, now videos and pictures of Dubai's sky turning green are taking social media by storm. While many users expressed their shock, others shared that it was an indication of the impending storm.

One video that viral on social media is a time-lapse clip that shows the grey sky turning into hazy green, indicative of the rainstorm. The 23-second video, posted on April 17, features the caption: “Sky turns green In Dubai! Actual footage from the storm in Dubai today.”

“Actual footage from the storm in Dubai today. You can see the sky turn GREEN!!!” shared another user.

Posting another video, another user wrote: “Heavy rain in Dubai right now, live footage sky turns green the whole city looks like dusty #Dubai #rain.”

About the phenomenon, one user said: “Usually when the sky does that, it means a tornado is coming.”

“That's supercell, tornado colour. I've seen it in the deserts of southwestern United States,” explained another user.

A Fox News report attributed the change in hue to because of the diffusion of light by the atmosphere lights ice droplets in a cloud. Quoting National Weather Service authorities, the report said, “Water/ice particles in storm clouds with substantial depth and water content will primarily scatter blue light. When the reddish light scattered by the atmosphere illuminates the blue water/ice droplets in the cloud, they will appear to glow green.”

The report added that there is “no known correlation between a blue-green sky and tornado production.”

Seconding this, a report by the University Of Wisconsin–Madison quotes Scott Bachmeier, a research meteorologist at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies as saying, “When blue objects are illuminated with red light, Bachmeier says, they appear green. Green is significant, but not proof that a tornado is on the way. A green cloud “will only occur if the cloud is very deep, which generally only occurs in thunderstorm clouds,” Mr Bachmeier explained, adding. “Those are the kind of storms that may produce hail and tornadoes.”

In light of the weather conditions, the Dubai International (DXB) has advised passengers not to come to the airport and added that flights continue to be delayed and diverted.

Dutch Crown Princess Moved To Spain To Escape Kidnapping Threats

Dutch Crown Princess Amalia fled to Spain to escape threats to her safety, local media reported, as she prepared to make her official debut at a state occasion later Wednesday. The 20-year-old lived and studied in Madrid for more than a year, reported public broadcaster NOS, citing royal sources.

In October 2022, Amalia was forced to abandon plans to live in student digs over security fears, just weeks after she started at Amsterdam University to study politics, psychology, law and economics.

The heir to the Dutch throne was captured beaming by photographers when she started her studies, with much made of the fact that she planned to live in student accommodation.

But the royal couple later said their daughter had been forced to return to the heavily guarded palace in The Hague.

"She can't live in Amsterdam and she can't really go outside (the palace)... It has enormous consequences on her life," said an emotional Queen Maxima at the time.

Officials would not confirm details, but the move came weeks after reports that Amalia and Prime Minister Mark Rutte were mentioned in communications by organised crime groups -- leading to fears of kidnappings.

NOS said the threat to Amalia had not completely disappeared but she was able to live and study in the Netherlands again due to unspecified "measures".

She is reportedly now living in Amsterdam.

On Wednesday, Amalia will for the first time play an official role in the two-day state visit of the Spanish royals.

Watch: Rohit's Act After Scoring 100 In Losing Cause Shows His True Class

The 'El Clasico' of cricket, between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, belonged to the Yellow Army on Sunday. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash saw Ruturaj Gaikwad's men emerge triumphant despite Rohit Sharma's century. The Hitman, who scored a 61-ball hundred, couldn't take his team across the line but did reach his century in the final over of the match. But, realising that even his hundred wouldn't be enough to take Mumbai Indians across the line, Rohit had a low-key celebration. (IPL 2024 Points Table)

After securing his ton with a boundary, Rohit even refused to raise his bat in celebration and only had a handshake with teammate Mohammad Nabi at the other end of the pitch. Here's the video:

Rohit, who opened the batting alongside Ishan Kishan, remained unbeaten on 105 off 63 deliveries as CSK secured a 20-run win. Despite the match resulting in a defeat for MI, fans and pundits were full of praise for Rohit.

Australia legend Brett Lee even lauded Rohit's 'selfless act' after seeing the franchise's former captain refusing to even celebrate his hundred.

"Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant hundred. The fact that he went out there, scored at a good clip too. I liked it when he scored his hundred, he didn't even raise his bat. For me, it shows that the win means more than his personal milestone.

"You know, he played with real intent right from ball one. He played shots all around the ground, but then the power and the finesse came into play. 105 not out of 63 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes, just unfortunately, you can't do everything on your own," Lee said on Jio Cinema.

It was Mumbai Indians' 4th defeat in 6 matches. The result sees the franchise placed 8th in the 10-team points table. While hope is not lost as far as playoffs qualification is concerned, MI need to put a string of victories in order to remain in contention for the next round.

Man Bites Of Shopkeeper's Finger Over Rs 50, He Wanted To Exchange A Frock

In a shocking incident, a man bit off the fingers of a shopkeeper after a dispute over Rs 50 in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district.

The incident took place when a shopkeeper, Shiv Chandra Karwaria, who sells clothes at a garment shop, said a customer approached his shop to buy a frock. He purchased a frock and went away.

The next day, the man returned to the shop and told Karwaria that the frock he purchased was small and said he wanted a bigger size. The shopkeeper told him that he would have to pay another Rs 50 for a larger frock.

An argument broke out between the two and the customer refused to pay Rs 50.

The matter took an ugly turn when suddenly the man bit off the finger of Karwaria's left hand. He also injured his son by biting him as well.

After that, the accused threw the clothes of the shopkeeper from his shop onto the road and fled.

An injured Karwaria reached a nearby police station and filed a complaint.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Kotwali Naraini, Suresh Saini, said that a case had been registered based on the shopkeeper's complaint.

The SHO said the police were searching for the accused and that legal action would be taken once he was arrested.

Watch: Vlogger Finds Dead Fly In Burger King Taco; Fast-Food Chain Responds

The hygiene of food has become an issue of major concern in recent times. Everyday, we come across people reporting hygiene-related issues at restaurants. While some find insects like cockroaches and mosquitoes, others complain about the quality of food in general. Regardless, this has caused worry among customers as they are now more sceptical about dining out than ever before.  And whenever they do, they make sure to inform others about it on their social media handles. In a recent addition, a food vlogger from Punjab turned to Instagram to recount a similar incident. He shared a video of a dead fly that he found in the veg cheese taco he had ordered.

The user expressed his frustration, stating, "Last night at 1:20 am, I visited @burgerkingindia to satisfy my late-night cravings. I ordered a veg cheese taco, and when it was served, I checked it because it seemed overly oily and had a strong smell, as you can see in the video. I don't typically inspect my food closely, but this time, I randomly checked and found a dead fly in my taco." He urged everyone to carefully inspect their food to ensure it is safe to eat. Check out his post here:

"Maintaining a clean and safe environment is essential, and the presence of dead flies undermines the well-being of residents and visitors alike. I urge you to take swift action to resolve this matter, conducting a thorough inspection of the kitchen to ensure that such incidents do not recur," he added.

The post swiftly gained momentum, sparking responses from internet users. One person shared a similar experience and wrote, "In fact, I also faced a similar issue wherein I was served chicken wings with blood. Even after complaining, the issue wasn't resolved well - no replacement, no refund, and I just wasted my money." Some people also inquired about which Burger King outlet it was, but the vlogger hasn't disclosed it. "Kahan ka Burger King hai bhai (Which Burger King is this, brother?)". A third person wrote, "Very bad @burgerkingindia." Another jokingly wrote, "Death time note karo iska (Note down its time of death)".

Rohit Makes Retirement Stance Clear With Big World Cup, WTC Final Remark

India captain Rohit Sharma is fully focused on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season with the Mumbai Indians. With the captaincy responsibility in the T20 league off his shoulders, Rohit is purely looking to enhance his skills as a batter, especially with the T20 World Cup set to take place in June this year. Rohit, who is 36 years old at present, however, has also seen talks about potential retirement hovering around him. But, as far as the Hitman is concerned, retirement isn't something that he has in his mind at the moment, with there still being hunger to win big events for India. (IPL 2024 Points Table)

In a chat on 'Breakfast With Champions', Rohit touched upon the retirement topic, saying he is still motivated to win the World Cup for India, and potentially the ICC World Test Championship final.

"I haven't really thought about retirement. But, I don't know where life takes you. I am still playing well at this point in time - so I am thinking I am going to continue for a few more years and then, I don't know. I really want to win the World Cup and there is a WTC final in 2025, hopefully India makes it," said Rohit on the show.

Rohit also spoke about India's ODI World Cup 2023 heartbreak where India were beaten by Australia in the final. Unbeaten in the entire tournament, Rohit's India suffered a surprising defeat against Pat Cummins' men to once again return from an ICC event empty-handed.

"50-over World Cup for me is the actual World Cup. We've grown up watching that World Cup. More importantly, it was happening in India in front of our home crowd. We played so well up until that final. When we won the semi-finals, I thought, now we're just a step away. We're doing all the things right."

"What's the one thing that can make us lose the World Cup? Not a single thing came to my mind. Because I thought we ticked all the boxes, we were playing good cricket. Confidence was there."

"We were all supposed to have one bad day and that I guess that was our bad day. Don't think we played bad cricket in that final, certain things didn't go our way. But Australia were slightly better than us," said Rohit.

Viral Now: Baker's Special Mother's Day Cake Is "Too Beautiful To Eat", Wins Hearts Online

Stunning cake designs often go viral on social media. The creativity and attention to detail required to create them leave us highly impressed. Among the latest cakes taking Instagram by storm is one made by a baker in a beautiful floral design for Mother's Day. In the reel by @thesqueakymixer, the baker first traces a floral design on a piece of parchment paper. Next, she separates 6 egg yolks and whites. She combines the yolks with basic cake ingredients to start making the batter. She whips the whites with what looks to be sugar and then adds them to the egg yolk mixture. She folds them well into the batter.

Next, she uses edible colours to create different shades of cake batter for the floral design. We see her painstakingly add colour to each detail of the design, including petals, leaves and other elements. She explains that one doesn't have to freeze the design in between adding layers of elements. If one has made the batter correctly, it will get piped properly and won't spread all over. Once the floral design is ready, she covers it with sponge cake batter. Finally, we see her add buttercream on top of a base layer of sponge cake. She crowns it with the now-ready cake layer with a pretty floral design. Watch the complete video below:
