New Social App From China's ByteDance Soars In US Amid TikTok Ban Calls

TikTok, the popular video-sharing platform, is facing ban calls in many countries, including the United States, where lawmakers grilled its chief executive Shou Chew last week over the company's ties with China. Wary of a stringent action, TikTok's parent company ByteDance has now introduced a new app called Lemon8 in the US, The New York Times (NYT) said in a report. The app was quietly introduced on both Google and Apple's app stores. Lemon8 will initially focus on topics like fashion, healthy food and wellness, said the NYT report.

"ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, invites you to become a launching creator on their new Lemon8 platform before it officially rolls out in the United States," the outlet quoted one of the ByteDance's marketing companies as telling content creators in a message.

The new social media platform aims to become a top global service and cited the success of its "sister company TikTok".

TikTok has amassed 150 million users in the US, and ByteDance appears eager to replicate its success with Lemon8, said NYT.

TechCrunch said Lemon8 jumped into the US app store's top charts on Monday, becoming the No 10 Overall app, across both apps and games.

Citing app store intelligence from data.ai, the outlet said that such a fast move for the app - which is now ahead of YouTube, WhatsApp, Gmail and Facebook in the US - implies a "significant" and "recent" user acquisition push on the app publisher's part.

NYT said the app was launched in Japan in 2020 and reached five million monthly active users worldwide. The company now plans to launch it in other countries like Britain, Singapore and Indonesia.

Violent Fight At Shimla Fruit Market Reminds Internet Of 'Baghpat Battle'

Back in 2021, a video of a brawl between two chaat sellers over attracting customers in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat went crazy viral, making its way into meme history pages. Now, a similar video of a fight between a bunch of fruit vendors in Shimla has surfaced online, reminding many of the iconic 'Baghpat battle.'

A video of the violent fight shows vendors attacking one another with empty vegetable trays and sticks over some argument. Empty crates, poles, and bricks are also used as weapons to hit each other as the fight continues. Soon, other shopkeepers join in, forming an alliance, and are seen throwing punches and kicks at an individual. 

The brawl ended only after police arrived at the market, and intervened. The fight reportedly occurred during a domestic dispute between two vendors bidding on fruits.

Meanwhile, the video has left the internet in splits, with many comparing it to the battle of Baghpat. 

A user even listed out points to compare the two fights. He wrote, '' ''Can't compare it with Baghpat Chat yudh because, 1. Lack of agility amongst wrestlers. 2. Area is not utilised properly. 3. Police intervened pretty early . 4. It was more of a defensive battle where both the parties tried not to escalate while BCY was all guns blazing.''

A second wrote, ''The battle of baghpat had more acrobatic moves.'' A third said, ''Nothing comes close to the Battle of Baghpath.'' A fourth said, ''Such a scenic fist-fight.''

Notably, the infamous battle of Baghpat began when chaat shop owners armed with iron rods and sticks, brutally beat each other up on the road. One of the major highlights of the brawl was a kurta-clad seller with flowing mehendi hair who could be seen pinning down his enemy shopkeepers during the fight.

Harinder, now famous on the internet as 'Einstein chacha", told news agency ANI that he had suffered because of his rivals over the past few days. The incident which is still fresh in people's memory has since become fodder for hilarious memes.

''Glimmer Of Hope'': Critically Endangered Amur Leopard Cubs Born In US

The San Diego Zoo recently welcomed two rare twin Amur leopards, one of the world's most endangered species. There are currently fewer than 300 Amur leopards left on earth. In a Facebook post, the zoo announced the births and said that mother leopard Satka gave birth to twins, the third set of Amur leopard twins to be born at the zoo.

The yet-to-be-named cubs recently emerged from their quiet birthing den with their mother, allowing zoo guests a chance to get their first glimpse of the tiny cats. Zoo officials say the time in the den allowed the cubs to bond with their mother. 

San Diego Zoo shared a video of the adorable cubs and captioned it as, ''Spotted: an im-paws-sibly cute new duo. We're excited to announce that Amur leopard Satka recently gave birth to a rare set of twins.''

The zoo further wrote, ''Satka is fur-miliar with her motherly duties. When she's not in the den grooming and nursing the cubs, she is keeping a watchful eye as they begin to explore the habitat outside.''

Amur leopards are categorized as Critically Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species because of tremendous habitat loss and poaching for their thick, spotted coats. 

''Witnessing the birth of Amur leopards is always an emotional experience. There are so few of them left in their native habitat that every birth carries so much weight—and every living individual promises a glimmer of hope,'' said Gaylene Thomas, wildlife care manager at the San Diego Zoo in a news release.

''We are absolutely thrilled with the progress made by the cubs. They have grown so much, and have already started showcasing their unique personalities. The cubs will get their first full veterinary exam soon, and we will know more, including their sex,'' Mr. Thomas added.

Reacting to the adorable video, one user said, ''Absolutely precious,'' while another commented, ''Just the cutest balls of fluff. And I love their chirp.'' A third said, ''Cuteness overload! Absolutely adorable.''

A fourth added, ''They sound like little Birdies. Very soon that Purrrr will get ferocious!'' while a fifth stated, ''Thank you San Diego Zoo for making this possible. I love seeing the precious results.''

The Amur leopard is nocturnal and lives and hunts alone, mainly in the forests of Russia and China. As per New York Post, adult Amur leopards can run at speeds of up to 37 mph and leap distances of more than 19 feet and heights of up to 10 feet.

"Had Not Met The Person...": Why Priyanka Froze Her Eggs In Early 30s

Priyanka Chopra has been a trailblazer in more ways than one. The actress has often made headlines for several of her professional and personal choices. Now, in a new episode of the podcast Armchair Expert with American actor-filmmaker Dax Shepard, Priyanka Chopra has explored some of these choices and milestones. Touching upon a deeply personal subject, the actress, who is the mother to a daughter, spoke of her decision to freeze her eggs in her 30s. Priyanka said that she took the major step on the advice of her mother, Dr Madhu Chopra, who is an obstetrician-gynaecologist. Priyanka Chopra shared that the decision to freeze her eggs gave her a sense of “freedom”.

Explaining her decision, Priyanka Chopra said, “I felt such freedom, I did it in my early thirties and I could continue on an ambitious warpath, I wanted to achieve, and I wanted to get to a certain place in my career.” That, however, was not the only reason. The actress continued, “Also, I had not met the person I wanted to have children with. So, with that anxiety-inducing, and with my mom who is an obstetrician-gynaecologist going, ‘36…just do it'.”

In the same interview, Priyanka Chopra also shared her love for children. The actress said, “I always knew I wanted kids and that was one of the reasons I didn't want to date Nick because I was like I don't know if he would want kids at 25. I love kids, I have worked with kids at UNICEF, and I have volunteered at kids' hospitals. I am like a kid whisperer, and I would rather spend time with children than with adults. I love kids, all our parties are kids and dogs friendly. At our house, you can bring them anytime.”

Nikhat Zareen on Sunday became only the second Indian boxer to win more than one gold  medals at the World Championships, emulating the legendary Mary Kom. Zareen had won the world title in 2022 in the 52 kg category, this time she won it in 50kg category. Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain made it a golden Sunday for India at the Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi. While Nikhat Zareen won the gold in the 50kg category, Lovlina Borgohain clinched the yellow metal in the 75kg category. Nikhat Zareen registered a 5-0 victory in the final bout against Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Tam to claim India's third gold in the tournament before Lovlina Borgohain won the summit clash against Australia's Caitlin Parker with a split 5-2 verdict. On Saturday, Indian pugilists Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Saweety Boora (81kg) had also won gold in their respective categories. 

Nikhat is an admirer of popular Hindi film superstar Salman Khan. After her 2022 win, Nikhat had even met Salman. The two have made reels together too. Now, Salman khan had a special message for Nikhat and the other Indian boxers.

Nawaz Vs Ex-Wife: After 100 Crore Defamation Suit, A Reported Settlement

Just days after filing a defamation suit amounting to Rs 100 crore against his ex-wife Aaliya Siddiqui and brother Shamasuddin Siddiqui, Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is willing to settle the legal matter. As per a report by ETimes, Rizwan Siddiquee, Aaliya's lawyer, received the settlement draft from the actor's legal team on Saturday (March 25). Given that this settlement draft comes just days after the defamation suit, Aaliya's lawyer stated that the defamation suit would have to be withdrawn for any sort of settlement between the two parties. The defamation suit filed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui on March 20 in the Bombay High Court seeks Rs 100 crore in damages and a written apology from Aaliya and Shamasuddin.

The suit accuses Aaliya and Shamasuddin of making defamatory and false statements against the actor and requests the court to permanently restrain Aaliya and his brother from making any defamatory remarks. Nawazuddin has also claimed that his brother and ex-wife have misappropriated Rs 21 crore from him.

The suit also alleges that Shamasuddin, who was appointed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui as his manager in 2008 and handled the finances, had cheated and defrauded the actor. Further, as per the suit, when confronted about the property fraud Shamasuddin instigated Aaliya Siddiqui to file false charges against Nawazuddin. They also worked together to blackmail the actor by uploading "cheap videos and comments on social media", a PTI report on the case specified.

Elaborating on the new settlement draft initiated by Nawazuddin Sidiqqui, Aaliya's lawyer categorically stated that she will “never go back to Nawaz”. However, the two will “do the best for their two children together in a mature way,” the lawyer added.

Speaking about the defamation suit that preceded the offer for settlement, Aaliya's lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee said: "As far as the defamation suit filed by Mr Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the High Court is concerned, I can only say that we have not been served any copy of the same as yet, but in any event, the suit was filed prior to the settlement proposed by Mr Nawazuddin Siddiqui and therefore the withdrawal of the same will automatically become an integral part of the settlement."

However, Aaliya was open to discussion, her lawyer told India Today. “Mr Nawazuddin Siddiqui, through his advocates, has sent me a draft of the terms of the settlement. The same was sent last evening. I am now in the process of discussing the same with my client. I assure that from my side, I am trying to fully ensure that all disputes between the parties end once and for all; and that both parties as parents concentrate on the well-being of their minor children and work towards securing their future," adding, "These consent terms are open for discussion. We expect to receive your proposed terms before the hearing, which is on 27th March 2023.”

Talks of the settlement were first initiated on March 23 by Nawazuddin Siddiqui when his lawyer told the High Court that he was willing to withdraw his habeas corpus petition and settle the legal issues with Aaliyah, provided the actor could meet his two children.

“I am aware of the limited relief that I can get in this petition. He has not seen his children physically. This is his limited concern. After that I will withdraw the petition," the actor's lawyer Pradeep Thorat informed the court as per India Today.

Earlier too, the Bombay High Court had suggested that the couple attempt to resolve their differences amicably, in the best interests of their minor children.

A Question On This Cricketer Features In Class 9 Exam, Fans Say "Full Marks"

Virat Kohli is undoubtedly one of the most admired athletes in the world. He continues to be one of the most loved and respected cricketers in India despite going through a hard spell in his career. Since the Asia Cup last year, "King Kohli" has made an incredible comeback and has become a prime example of tenacity and determination. His dedication towards the game has been praised by his fans and people across the world. One instance of this was when a question about Mr Kohli's comeback was included in a Class 9 exam.

The question features a photograph of the cricket player celebrating his century against Afghanistan during the 2022 Asia Cup and asks students to describe it in 100-200 words. Fans claim they can easily get score excellent marks by responding to the question after the picture became viral on social media.

The picture was shared by a user Johns on Twitter. Since being shared, it has amassed five lakh views and over eight thousand likes.

"Full marks for this question," said a user.

Last year, Saba shared a video from a screen test on Instagram, and Sussanne was quick to reply, "Soooo radddddd! Love this." Saba replied to Sussanne's comment on her post, and she wrote: "Thanks my Sooz."
